The alternate commute - save on fuel

1 min

The alternative commute!

Research suggests that the average commuting distance for most people is around 10 miles, making it a very doable distance for which to consider alternative means of transport. Given the insane rise in fuel costs recently, this could be the perfect opportunity to save some money, reduce your carbon footprint and get super fit while doing it.

While there's still plenty of long days left why not give it a try - here's some top tips to consider before you do:

  1. Take the stress out of your commute by leaving 10 minutes early
  2. Build up by cycling one day a week, moving up to two and so on as your confidence and fitness grows
  3. Invest in a good saddle bag or backpack in which you can comfortably fit a laptop and change of clothes (don’t forget shoes!)
  4. Wear gloves as often as you can; not only do they keep your hands warm they’ll prevent calluses too.
  5. Use a cycle wing mirror attached to the handlebars of your bike, it’s invaluable for seeing what’s coming up behind you - especially important if you are trying to build up your on road confidence.

4th August 2022 is national cycle to work day - why not give it a go?!
